Nelly's parents are portuguese emigrants. She can speak four languages: english,portuguese,hindi and spanish. Since she was 2 she has lernt trombone and since she was 11 on a keyboard. First texts she has written when she was 7 years old. Don't you think that's amazing ?:)
After she's finished school she and her parent's have moved to the Toronto where she has started study. In this time she created her first serious music project Nelstar(1997).
The big move on her black style she started when she was sixteen on her journey to Portugal.
She saw the something like freestyle fight between two young portuguese guys. "I've entered to this club and I've saw that. I could refain from walking on the stage and singing. I've thought up words and starded to fight on freestyle. In Portugal is something like freestyle. I's called cancoes dasafios. It's very difficult because you heve to know some many words and dialects."
In some night she had been dscovered by Gerald Eaton when she was singing in the Lee's Palace in Toronto. He was her helper with publishing her first debut cd "Whoa, Nelly!"
Her style is mix of styles because she was living with people from Africa.Europe,Asia.
20.09.2003 she gave birth doughter Nevis.
The father is her friend and dj from her band Jasper Gahunia(Lil' Jaz). On the 25th 2003 she was published her 2nd cd "Nelly Folklore". In this cd we can find the song "Forca" which was the oficial song of The European Champions in football in Portugal.
The 23rd of May 2006 was published her 3rd album "Loose" . On this cd we can find Chris Martin,Pharell,Timbaland and Ms. Jade. Nelly is planning to record a new cd in portuguese language.
She was participant of the AMERICAN IDOL
